Geocaching

This fun and outdoor oriented activity is a high-tech treasure hunting game that involves locating hidden containers; called geocaches using a GPS enabled device or smart phone. Geocaching is enjoyable for all ages and abilities and with over a dozen geocaches located at or near Willamette Pass, it is a great way to spend the day while also exploring your National Forest.

A geocache can contain a variety of items, ranging from tradable prizes to Travel Bugs and Geocoins that allow you to track where they have traveled to in the past. However, a geocache will always contain a logbook or logsheet to sign, date and if you wish, write a brief memo about your experience finding the cache.

If you are new to geocaching or interested knowing more about the game, Geocaching.com is a great resource. It features a Starter's Guide for understanding the basics of geocaching, the rules and guidelines to follow, the different types of geocaches found in the game and the process of how to search for one. The video below provides a brief overview about the game and how it's played.

Pick up a free geocaching coordinate sheet inside our mountain lodge, providing information on nearby geocaches, including their size, level of difficulty to find and to navigate to.

A GPS device or GPS enabled smart phone is required to participate.
